OLD TIME 'BONKO ARTIST'

My, always helpful wife, thought it would be a good idea for me to consolidate my collection. She might have also said, " and throw out some stuff," but I didn't hear that clearly.

Well I took to the job. I did manage to find some garbage.  I consolidated it in the waste bucket. The wife was happy.

I also found this "Wanted Card." It did not get anywhere near that  waste bucket. Its' a piece of history dating to 1944. Finding this memory made me happy.

The gentlemen on the card, in the fine suit with tie, is Lloyd A Kingsberry. He also is know as Walter Brady, Albert Kingsberry or Lloyd King. It seems this fine gent is wanted regarding the 'sale of some oil stock'. At least that is what is noted.

The card is signed (stamped) Matthew J. Bolger, Chief of Police. I find that interesting, because Matty's brother John, was one of the bosses in the Probation Department when I started my employment in 1965.

Of serious note is the condition of this card. It is in excellent shape. The corners are sharp (no bends or folds). The finger prints are crisp and still usable (maybe).

The photo is rather good. It shows no damage from aging and gives insight into the whole process of alerting other jurisdictions on wanted individuals.

This will make a nice display item when placed in a proper frame and taken to the next show (oh the wife is going to be so happy). Actually I am quite pleased with this memory of years ago and will proudly show it off. I hope you all enjoyed looking at it here.

BEATRICE ALLISTON CASE CLOSED

If you recall a couple of months ago I wrote I was looking for one - Beatrice Alliston. I even did a BOLO  looking for help from you.

Since the original memo, I made some progress which I shared. I told you she was a shoplifter and Newark knew her under gallery number  5814.

I dug and dug, and finally can tell you - Case Closed. 

Beatrice received a suspended sentence on March 31 in Municipal Court, Judge Wm. P. Martin presiding. Case disposed with following: "S.S. New Jersey Reformatory for Women, 18 Mos."

The exact date March 31, 1919. Originally I missed the year in the date. That put me off by almost 100 years.?

I know the facts of this case because I have the "Original Disposition Blank." This is a form that tracked the status of a prisoner showing Gallery number, Name, and Date of Arrest. 

Somehow this simple sheet of paper, pictured below,  escaped the shredder,  and I was able to make the purchase to save it in my personal museum. There I enjoy reviewing old time Newark. The document is a "treasure" and I am happy to show it here.

MY ORIGINAL P.O. BADGE

This is actually the first badge I ever got on my own. I purchased it from H. Buchlien & Son in Newark and I believe it cost me $12.00. Of course that was a long time ago - 1965 to be exact.

I got it in late July following my appointment as a County Probation Officer. That was just a few days after graduating from Bloomfield College.

During my college years I thought I would go into education. My father sure let me know not to go near a police or other job in law enforcement. But the starting salary of $6200 was too much to turn down.

Thirty years after taking that job I found myself settled in as Chief PO. Now that was something I could have never dreamed of, but luck shined on me. I hung on as Chief for five years.

Now holding that first badge brings me back, would you believe, fifty plus years. There sure are a ton of memories over that time, and they all seem like yesterday. That is Okay because Memories are what I am collecting.

MY "BOLO" ON BEATRICE ALLISTON

Just a few days ago, I let the world know, I started looking for one Adult Female named Beatrice  somewhere in the Newark NJ area. I issued a "Blog Bolo" (a new tech thing).Everyone knows that this was (not) a hunt for a Major Crime figure. It is only something this retired Dude needs to pursue for the sake of his sanity. The only clue is that Newark had her on April 19, and made a record of her, under Gallery Number 5814.  Beyond that number "we (I assume you are all working on this)"  will find out what happened to her.

NORWOOD MARSHALL

Norwood is a small community in Southern Bergen County in NJ. I never heard of it, although I lived relatively close to it most of my adult life. I learned of it by collecting these NJ Marshal badges. 

This doesn't look all that impressive. The major issue is the enamel in the recessed letters. That condition gives a hint as to age, and I am leaving it in its present state.

The design is a little different than what I am use to seeing when hearing "Eagle on Top." This one is very nice with a good "lift" in the wings. That "lift" creates an open space just underneath the full wing. The bird sits on a circle that has a nice ornate touch on outside perimeter.

At the bottom there is a nice appendage that floats a small oval panel. This one carries number 21. There is a larger panel on top of the circle that reads "MARSHAL"

The circle carries the name "Norwood" and my State spelled out in full. At dead center is the Jersey State Seal. That makes it authentic, official, and old.

Having never heard of the town I did some checking on line and learned that it was very close to the George Washington Bridge, and Manhattan in N.Y.  The Bridge has been popular of late, but there seems to be no news from Norwood. It also is near the Palisades where the old amusement park was located. Now that is a place I remember. Riding the Wild Mouse, and looking at the Hudson River is still a vivid memory. 

Yes this fine looking badge does resurrect some fine memories.

TITUSVILLE - EAST COAST SHOW

I wrote "East Coast" because I drove nearly six hours from the lower West Coast just to get to Titusville!  In my younger days I would have made the trip in four flat. If not I would have lied about it. Lucky for me, Steve Bridges did not require a passport. He just wanted a few pictures from the Show. and I was happy to deliver. The guys with Steve are all winners. I think they can forgive me as I didn't get the categories written down. Anyway they look real happy and deserve a salute for a fine display. Here they are:            

Now I left my wife with my collection from Newark with strict instructions not to sell anything. She knows better. Before telling you about the rest of the show I must (want) to show a couple of my pieces. Check them out.

































Okay for the rest of the Show. A variety of exhibitors filled the room to capacity. I settled on getting a few pictures of items that you might enjoy looking at as did I. 

The picture below is of Marcel Jojola. What a shirt. It almost lists the towns where he has served as "Police Chief." Marcel told me that during his career he was the Chief in five different communities. Of course these jobs were not all at once, but at the end of his lengthy career in law enforcement. Marcel was quite proud of his "record" and his display of articles from his career in the Show at Titusville.  

Now if I didn't make a mistake these are from Marcel's collection.

As I walked around the floor I was quite pleased to run into Officer Peter Hernandez of the Windemere, Fl Police Dept. Peter is founder of a new organization called "The Wounded Officer's Initiative." He hopes support can come from all fifty states to benefit officers who are hurt while protecting others.

This young Lady shows off her patch collection, and also lets it be known that woman are part of our hobby too.

Above is one huge display. Take a close look at the three main exhibits. They take up the whole table top. This was really impressive.

As for the guy here I am not sure about him. I saw no tables with displays. I noted he had a camera and took more pictures then me. Someone told me he was a news media icon. Immediately I thought of Randolph Hearst, but that was wrong. This is Mr. Mike Bonderanko, Publisher of PC News. He had a good time too at Titusville 2016.
