This is a Rank Set from the old Essex County Probation Department. They are obsolete now. I estimate their age to be around 30 years.
Essex used four titles on their Badges: CHIEF, ASST CHIEF, PRINCIPAL OFFICER, and OFFICER. The Badge I had issued to me when I last worked there was "# 3 Principal Officer."
All of these Badges have a NJ State Seal at center point. When the County purchased Badges for the Department it was their Seal, a LION standing on its rear legs. The single Badge at the top is an example of the County (Lion) Seal. It is # 14.
I have have had these items since the mid 1990's when they were gifted to me. I have them in an Oak and Glass Display case hanging on my wall where I view them daily, and treasure the memories that they bring.
